Sand in all the wrong places.
First off, Dyker for $70 seemed a bit steep, but it's convenient and had more times available than Marine Park. Unfourtunatly we soon realized why there were so many times available. The greens had more sand than the sand traps. Again, more sand than the traps. It's a disgrace that the course is allowed to book players without a warning when the greens are aeriated and had enough sand (easily 1"-2" in some places) for people to draw out letters and other shapes. There were also several holes where some clowns made a path for their putt in the green with the sand in order for it to have a better roll. Of course this effects every other golfer that comes after them - making sand art is usually reserved for the beach.
The fairways were rock hard and had 0 grass (it's a hot summer but still the fairways are dirt paths at this point.) Because of this it was very hard to hit any follow up shots past the tee shot. (Slight positive is that when you hit the ball 275 off the tee your total distance will be way over 300)
I wish the course was in better shape since it's right here in Brooklyn, but I would rather spend more time to travel anywhere farther than here.
Waste of money
Fairways were brown and as hard as concrete. We waited behind at least one group at every hole. Do not go here on weekends.
It’s dyker
Always an experience at this course. Conditions have to be as bad as I have ever seen them: fairways and rough more like a sandlot than a golf course. It’s a place to hit the ball
Unfortunately because of the heat the fairways were brown and sub spots dead the greens and two boxes went nice though
Tees and greens
I am guessing the heatwave affects all courses due to lack of rain/water, fairways dried out. The fairways and most bunkers were in bad shape.
The tee boxes and greens looked pretty good, better than most.
I actually played as a single, and got around in 3hrs, even with pratice shots and puts, so close to breaking 80.
Meh
I’ve given this course a few chances to change my mind. It’s just meh. Golf carts are falling apart - ripped seats, cracked/broken shields, parking break that decides on its own wether or not it’s going to work.
No driving range. Has a chipping area, but no putting green - unless you count a twig jammed into the chipping green as a flag.
Fairways were like a runway. Dead grass and dirt. So hard you couldn’t even divot.
Had to wait on every shot, long round. The course just screams neglect in every aspect except the greens, which were pretty good all around. It was the only saving grace of the course.
Awful Condition
Tee boxes in bad condition. Fairways parched. Greens ok but lots of divots. Bunkers have little or no sand. It was like playing off hard pan if you landed in one. Way overpriced for what you get.
A Real Shame
At one time Dyker Beach Golf course was the best and most popular muni course in NYC.
Those days are in the past.
The greens were extremely slow and bumpy.
The bunkers were unplayable and the fairway were all browned out.
The real shame is it’s a great layout in a great location and could be great again with proper care and investment.
Sand hornet problem
The course wasn’t too bad. Greens were very nice. Staff was amazing. But every bunker was infested with sand hornets. It made it very uncomfortable and at times
Impossible to hit in or near the bunkers. The fairways were also in pretty rough shape. All in all I enjoyed my time but due to the hornet problem I don’t think I’ll be returning soon
They’re lost control of this course
Teed off 40 minutes after our tee time. Pace was abysmal. Three hours to do front nine. Course is bone dry and hard. Bunkers are trashed. Literally. There is trash everywhere in them. This used to be a good course but they can’t keep up with all the new golfers. Hopefully they figure this out soon.
Bunt n bunkered
Tee boxes were dry n hard. Greens were over grown n slow. Fairways n rough are burnt. Bunkers still are horrible since the pandemic.
Slow Ride Home
The playing surface was great. The sand traps needs some sand and the cart paths were full of ruts. Bottom line the "golf" part was excellent. Good layout, nice fairways and greens. Love to play again. The worst part of the day was the drive home on the Belt Parkway.
