Ravenwood Golf Course
About
Ravenwood Golf Club is situated in the Finger Lakes region in western New York. It's one of the most popular public championship courses in the Rochester region. Robin Nelson designed the course in 2002. He utilized the gently undulating landscape to seamlessly connect the holes to one another so that the whole golf course has a natural flow. The front nine is gentler than the back, where the par 3s present formidable tests. The water hazards on the back are particularly challenging. The golf course finishes with one of its most memorable holes. Ravenwood's par-5 18th has a green that's tucked into the woods with the hill behind it forming a natural amphitheater. A challenging array of seven strategically placed bunkers guards the green and approach area.

My experience at Ravenwood was outstanding. The course was beautiful, and in perfect condition. It would rival many PGA TOUR courses. The layout is fun and fair (avoid the lush rough) with lots of uphill approach shots. The sand bunkers are the best that I've ever played. The clubhouse is exceptional as well, with a panoramic view of the course. And, as nice as the course was, the staff was even better. Even though this was my first visit, I was made to feel like a long-time member. If you enjoy quality courses, then you should not miss this one!
One of the bet public corses in Rochester area
Great greens and course is always in good shape. Friendly staff. Always busy but can generally find a place for a single. GPS on carts but holes are very well marked for walkers.
great course
Design of course and the upkeep of the course is beautiful. After a nights rain the course was a bit saggy. Some areas more than others but can be helped. It is open enough to go for it and unforgiving if stray to far off the fairway. If in the area I highly recommend this course.
Played half the round in the rain
Course was in average condition mostly because of recent rain. Cart path only and played last half of round in the rain so was pretty soggy. Biggest complaint was lack of sand in some of the green side bunkers. Well worth the discounted price but not sure its a good value at normal prices!
Prime maintenance exceptional greens fantastic design
This course is pricey at regular rates but early spring and fall or is an amazing value and an opportunity for the regular golfer to play an immaculate championship course. Love the golf now specials on tee times
Players impatient
We arrived 1/2 hour early and did not have time to practice putt before tee time, we were sent out early because "there were other groups waiting." Course received a lot of rain and it was draining well. Greens were a little slow. Many short holes and yardages did not match up on cards. Staff was extremely friendly but at a 3 1/2 hour pace being hit into was not appreciated. Played well for me 85. Rough was thick and if the ball sat down you were penalized as you should. Will play again when it is a little drier.
Beautiful
I play courses all over the US. This is absolutely one of the best maintained courses I've played. Thanks for a great experience.
Excellent course, best I've played
Ravenwood is a gorgeous course that is very challenging. Accuracy is key, missing fairways leaves you with difficult shots out of thick rough. The fairways and greens are kept in perfect condition, you will not come across a better maintained course unless playing a private course. This is as close to a private course as you can get and well worth the money. The course is very scenic will beautiful trees and rolling hills. I highly recommend playing here atleast once.
Spring round
Every green had been aerated so putting was not very fun. I usually love the greens here because they run true and fast. It also was a pretty cool and windy day so conditions were tough. However, $24 for this course is an absolute steal! I've never not enjoyed a round here. Anytime there is a hot deal here, I will be looking to book it.
Fun course with short and long holes
Course has a nice mix of hole lengths, including several short par 4s that mostly play uphill and each nine finishes with an uphill par 5 that plays into the prevailing wind. Sunny but very windy (20-30 mph) day made the course play difficult with soft fairways and firm green, affecting both ball striking and putting. The staff were friendly and professional.
Much Improved.
Ravenwood is one of the top public courses in all of western new york, it has been the measuring stick for other courses as far as course management and overall facilities and equipment is concerned with always top notch service. However this past season they were hit hard with the winter weather and did serious damage to the greens. As such the greens were unpredictable and difficult to navigate on an already tough to play course. Much of the summer season we have avoided returning to the course after a couple of outings. Now that the season is nearing an end, the condition is at the best it has ever been, it shows the staff have been working hard at it, I certainly hope that the next coming season it would remain the same.
Great course
I live near Ravenwood, and you won't find a better public course in Western NY. While I wouldn't pay the rates that they charge on the weekends, it's a great course, and the deals through golfnow.com are great. Highly recommend it. Also, if you go out as a single or twosome, the people that I've been paired with are fantastic--never gotten a yahoo in my 10+ visits.
Watch your approach
Very, very nice course. It is fairly straight for the average hitter. Lots of bunkers, but fine, fine real golf course sand not construction sand. Don't worry about landing in a bunker it's like playing out of butter. I love this sand! There are some holes with water to hit over with all the predictable dangers. The approach to the greens is most often off to the side limiting the bump and run options. The greens were very hard for mid October. Come in at a shallow angle and you are chipping twice, every hole.
excellent condition
It's almost the middle of October and Ravenwood is still in pristine condition. Greens are perfect, sand was still sand and not a dirt mixture, and no leaves on fairways. Would go back in a heart beat.
NY GEM
Have played this course every year now in the fall for the past three years. Brought two foursome this year. From checking in thru to completion of round, it is a excellent experience.
Course was in excellent shape. Upon arrival we were informed that we were behind a USGA Regional qualifier however it did not slow the pace of play. Completed round in just over 4 hours.
Will be back next year, so keep up the great service Ravenwood.
Great course
I have played this course many times and always enjoy the round!
Will go Back
I travelled close to 3 hours to play this course, and will do it again. I was not there to play Ravenwood specifically, but I will next time. The course is set up for all levels of golfer, and was a enjoyable round.
There was a few holes where the road noise from the Thruway way bothersome, but even that could not detract from the great experience
nice golf course
very nice , extremely open fairways with many height changes and undulating greens. Highly recommend fellow golfers to give it try. My foursome played it on a fairly cold late summer day with at times light rain. I'm a bogey golfer and course is challenging but yu can score.
Awesome course
This course is in great shape and absolutely beautiful. Awesome time and great facility.
Rewarding course
The course is rewarding if you get off the tee,, be selective and lookout for the traps.. The rough is thick. Great experience.
