Ravenwood Golf Course
About
Ravenwood Golf Club is situated in the Finger Lakes region in western New York. It's one of the most popular public championship courses in the Rochester region. Robin Nelson designed the course in 2002. He utilized the gently undulating landscape to seamlessly connect the holes to one another so that the whole golf course has a natural flow. The front nine is gentler than the back, where the par 3s present formidable tests. The water hazards on the back are particularly challenging. The golf course finishes with one of its most memorable holes. Ravenwood's par-5 18th has a green that's tucked into the woods with the hill behind it forming a natural amphitheater. A challenging array of seven strategically placed bunkers guards the green and approach area.

Great Day But
Very nice day. Played round with my son before heading back to school. Course layout very comfortable off the tee.Fairways, bunkers in great shape. Only negatives were that the threesome in front of us didn't have a clue about golf etiquette (ranger would have helped) and the majority of the greens looked like dart boards. Must be a lot of players here who are just plain lazy to repair ball marks.
Excellent Rochester course
Course in great condition, apart from the greens which were somewhat beat up. Pace of play was excellent. Service at every level was excellent. We have been playing this course for several years and the standards have always been maintained to a high level.
A popular choice in Rochester
Almost every golfer I talked to during my trip around the New York Golf Trail pointed to Ravenwood as their favorite public course around Rochester.
I personally lean toward Greystone, but Ravenwood is certainly right there. It's kept in first-rate shape. The layout is straight-forward and playable. I was really impressed with the staff, too. Ron was one of the best starters I've met in all my travels. He was friendly and went out of his way to say goodbye to me after the round. If more staff made that effort to more guests, golf would be in a better place.
Nice Place- I will be back again!
Thanks for a nice afternoon. Even though the weather was pretty poor I had a very enjoyable afternoon and found everyone there to be extremely friendly and courteous to an out of towner.
Several of the greens had been recently punched when I was there but I was told that before I went out so no surprise. The course is challenging but not a killer and looks to be in great shape.
I would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Rochester. Worth the short drive!
Definitely worth a visit!
I stopped here on a business trip to Rochester via Golfnow and will do so again on my next trip here.
The course was in excellent condition. Greens are fast, smooth and very challenging. The layout is not that long but even the shorter 4's will trick you into a bad score if you aren't careful.
The clubhouse is very nice and everyone is exceptionally friendly.
An Excellent Outing
My friend and I made arrangements to play here on the recommendation of a local. We were totally blown away by the very friendly welcome upon checking in. The course was in excellent shape. The layout was very interesting. The most challenging part of the course were the undulating speedy greens. No putt went where you thought it should go. A very definite challenge to the average golfer. I would highly recommend this course to all golfers. The many tee blocks allowed for all levels of golfers to find their best distance of play.
Good Shape and Good Value
I had a very pleasant experience. The greens had been recently treated and were a bit slow, but overall the course was in very good condition. I paid $49 on GolfNow and well worth that price. I really liked the design of the course. Very playable and fare. Very good service.
Drains well, excellent track
It has been raining for several days, and sprinkled a little during the round. Cart path only, but the course drains well.
Even the traps were very playable when wet.
Maintenance is very good.
Greens large, and sloped.
Hilly, but not unfair.
This course is overpriced compared to others that are similar in quality in the area.
Great layout and challenging course
I played the course from the Tournament tees and found it quite challenging. The course layout is awesome with a mix of long par 3's , 4's and 5's and some shorter but still challenging holes thrown in.
This is the 2nd time I have played this course (Fall of 2013) and both times the course was in great shape. Its like playing a Private course. I can't wait to play it again this summer......& I live in CT!
Thoroughly enjoyable, beautiful condition
This course was really enjoyable to play. The layout is very "use-friendly" from the tees (probably one of the easiest driving courses I've ever played), but the greens are challenging enough that the course is no pushover. It's also set up at a very realistic level of distances for the average golfer (though there were 3 sub-300 yard par 4s from the blues, which I thought was probably 2 too many playing that short, even with the course playing at 6200 yards). And while I rode the course with a friend of mine, it would actually be a very walkable course, too. And on the day I played, the whole course--including the greens--was in beautiful shape.
My only minor criticism is that the course is a little pricey for its market at $55. But that's really hard to knock them for too much, because the course is really a gem.
Awesome Course
This was our first time playing this course. We caught a great hot deal on golf now and used the opportunity to take a ride and check it out. It's approx. an hour drive for us, but it was well worth it.
Beautiful landscaping and scenery viiew from every tee. We noticed a lot of divot marks in all the fairways which is a shame that people don't make the effort to repair their own divots, but overall the fairways were great. Greens were a bit challenging and my husband played in the bunkers a few times and believe me, there are many of them. Ladies tees are a goof advantage and more than fair on every whole. Would love to play this course again sometime. Love golfnow for making all of our rounds of golf so affordable!
Great shape
this course is in great shape, well taken care of
From the tee blocks to the greens fantastic
Played from the forward tees and most of the danger is taken away, sorry to say. I wish more courses would leave some challenge from the forward tees in play.
great course
Overall course in great shape, you could tell there was some damage to the greens with the rough winter.Though greens were smooth and quick.Only disappointment was on 17th and 18th green, there was a kids camp on course and held us up for several minutes.Took 25 min to play last hole, they should have waved us through.
ravenwood
Course in excellent condition with the exception of a few greens where people just refuse to repair their ballmarks.
Links course worth the trip.
Was visiting Rochester area and picked this course off golfnow site. Very nice course and unusual links style with lots of wind made it more interesting.
Nice pro shop and staff. Do no hesitate to play this course.
Best course in WNY hands down
2nd time my group has played this course and it is amazing. The staff is friendly, the carts have gps in them, and a touch screen to order food on the 9th tee. Fairways were amazing to hit off of, the tee boxes kept clean, even the rough was kept lower than i remember so our shots that went off line weren't that hard to find. Honestly, if you get a chance to play this course do it. This course is the reason people fall in love with the game of golf.
Great
I am ready to play again!! Great course and everyone was so friendly!
A Must Play in Western NY
One of the Best Public Courses in the area. If you are traveling to the Finger Lakes, this is a must stop!!!
