Needs TLC
Very nice course with an excellent layout and great potential. Except for the greens, the conditions are disgraceful. Americon Golf needs to put some money into it or the city needs to change its franchisee. It’s a shame that this is not a top rated course in the metro area given it is only one of three on Staten Island that are public. NYC should inspect & direct American Golf to wake up and get this place in better shape.
First Time Iut 2022
Nice track. Gentle rolling hills. Golfers should be better at repairing green pitch marks. Maintenance staff should maintain and spruce up bunkers. As long as you stay out of them your good! Tee time was 1227. Finished at 445 —- and that was with letting 2some behind us play through. No waiting at any holes. Pace of play was good. Snack shop was adequate for a burger and bet.
The Good , the bad
Mid April golf with rain and cold weather not conducive to plush grass The course was in decent shape. Fairways had some bare spots but you were able to find some decent grass in area of your ball. Low lying areas were wet but salvageable.
Greens were recently aerated so a bit sandy and hard Tee boxes while not great have started to grow in and are alot better than the last 2 seasons. The carts are preposterous and are beat to crap. All in all , I grabbed a hot deal and paid $45 for a 10 am tee time so 18 holes with cart under $50 these days are rare. If I’m paid the standard $70+ I may not have been so nice in my review. Staff is great if only AGC would put some $$$ into SSGC it would be a great place and keep locals from going to NJ. Oh, and I played with Matty B !
Don’t waste your money
Found out upon arrival let the greens were recently aerated. This should be information that is provided prior to booking. The greens were horrendous. Just about every tee box was grassless. There was no sand in any of the bunkers. They were all hard pan. The golf carts were in disrepair. The pace of play was horrible. Absolutely a waste of money.I’ve played here a few times in the past few years and always found it and enjoyable round of golf. I won’t be back.
Unfortunate
All the tee boxes are "under repair" , the temporary locations are pretty pathetic. This is winter golf in the north east. Someone should have noted this earlier, you don't find this out until you get to the starter.
TEE BOXES ARE A MESS
Grounds crew (if they have one ?) Should be fired. Understand course gets a lot of play but so do a lot of other courses in NJ and they are fine. Not kidding Grounds crew should be fired
Course conditions
Tee boxes need a lot of work but fairways and greens are in good condition
It's seen better days
If properly maintained the course is well designed and fun to play, but the management has let the course deteriorate to the point it's not only not fun but downright unplayable. Greens were ok, still recovering from aeration but tee boxes and fairways look more like grazing areas than golf courses. I got a golf now hot deal and used a promotion so at least it want so expensive, the rack rate with cart(and the carts are in horrible condition) is just not worth it. I won't be be back this year, hopefully next year will be better, too many other places to play for better conditions and value.
