Conditions were better, still room for improvement
The fairways and tee boxes (except for the 9th hole) were in good shape. Greens were a bit slow and the bunkers could use some more sand and raking. Overall it wasn’t bad for spring conditions. hopefully the rude players on the course will do their part to keep it playable.
Not worth to spend 5 hours
The guy at the pro shop was very friendly and funny. The course layout is short and easy. But they put to many people on this short course! That makes it a 5 hour wait! The restrooms were a mess!
Blind Golf
The course Lay-out is terrible: almost every hole has a blind shot. Alway have to watch out if the group in front is behind the hill. Never find your ball if it's not on the fairway, cause you didn't see where it landed.
And the restrooms were a mess.
Still in bad shape..but being repaired
Haven't play SS since last year because it was in terrible shape. Went back to play an afternoon week day round. Staff/ pace of play B+..tee boxesC- but they appear to be in the process of fixing Fairways A-. Greens not in bad shape but slow. And bunkers D- Absolutely horrible...still not Wirth 70+$$ Rather go to Jersey for the difference of the toll
Course in Disrepair
Unfortunately South Shore Golf Couse is in desperate need of repair, cleanup and restoration. The couse has been in steady decline for quite a few years. The cart paths, sand traps haven’t been repaired and there is quite a bit of trash lining the wooded areas. There were not enough golf carts on Sunday, so there was a wait, but that might be expected on a busy weekend. The golf carts themselves are very torn up and need big time rehab or better yet, full replacement. The mens rest room have 2 broken urinals an a sink which have been out of order for several months. The personnel at the food concession are always friendly and accommodating,, but this concession is not always open during normal golf hours, so bring your own coffee and snacks to be safe. The bottom line is that this course should be in mint condition given the greens fees being charged. It used to be one of the pearls of Staten Island. It needs a tremendous amount of attention to get back to where it was several years ago.
Very nice local course
South Shore is a nice fairly short course!
Aerated greens are getting better
Fairways are generally clean
I do not consider it worth $80 for the round !
No ball cleaners out yet! No water to drink out yet! Not even garbage pails with bags in them
Other then that!
It’s very nice there
Good course to play
Not going back
Learned upon arrival that their greens were recently aerated. It would be nice to be made aware of that at time of booking with Golfnow. A modest discount for that would be good business as well. The starter was informative and helpful. The course itself was in bad shape. Grassless tee boxes on most every hole. Greens were unputtable. Bunkers had no loose sand. They were like hard pan. Pace of play was rediculously slow. Never saw a Ranger. The price was rediculous for the round. I have played this course a few times in the last few years and enjoyed the rounds but I will not be returning after what it’s turned into.
Horrible shape
It’s early in the year so it’s expected that the course wouldn’t be in great shape but this was egregiously bad. And the golf carts looked like they hadn’t been washed since last year. Absolutely awful.
Needs TLC
Very nice course with an excellent layout and great potential. Except for the greens, the conditions are disgraceful. Americon Golf needs to put some money into it or the city needs to change its franchisee. It’s a shame that this is not a top rated course in the metro area given it is only one of three on Staten Island that are public. NYC should inspect & direct American Golf to wake up and get this place in better shape.
