Golf Advisor: Top Courses in New York (2015 #13)
Reviews
mostly great with a few caveats
Doral Golf Club offers some great deals on golfnow and is definitely worth a visit. I was fortunate to get a very early tee time for a VERY low rate, on a beautiful day. The course was in excellent condition and was fairly challenging. As a 16 handicapper, playing off the long tees (which were not very long at all.... only 2900+ yds per 9 hole loop), there were no holes where par was out of reach. Good course management is required as many of the non fairway landing locations have very steep swales or fairway bunkers. There is water on many holes, the bunkers were in super condition, and many of the greens were huge but usually well protected. Pin positions were generally fair, but the greens were slow. All of the holes were high quality design, but a little too "tricked up" for my taste. The course is set on a hotel resort and is interlaced with modern condos. It does not have a very natural feel to it. The macro view is pretty boring, but the holes themselves are pretty and cleverly designed. My favorite hole was #8, which is a short (345 yds) but deceptive par 4 dogleg. It gets very narrow after about 175 yards, and then a 100+ yard carry to the green area, which makes strategy for your second shot very tricky.
Overall, I had a very good experience at Doral, but I prefer a more natural course design and locale, so I probably won't play it again. I think many, if not most, golfers will find this course to be excellent. Give it a try.
1st round of 2016
Great course but pace was very slow. Facility was understaffed and I heard some some women complain about the women's locker room. There were no staff members available to receive their concerns. Used to provide water bottles but jot snymore.
Fun 9 holes
This course is in great shape. Although not extremely long, it is a fun track to play. If your in the area I would play this one.
Great 9 holes
Lovely little course with a varied layout. Greens are usually nice and quick but early tee times may be slower. Nice elevation changes.
Offers a good challenge for a 9-hole track
Generally, I would never play a 9-hole course, but this track intrigued me. Maybe it was the Doral name or the 131 slope. Overall, the course was in good condition. Greens well kept. Not too fast, not to slow, and has some undulation. Interesting layout. Not overly long, but definitely protected by its hazards and some carries over water. At under 3000 yards from the tips, long hitters can probably easily get by without a driver. At $70 listed on the course website, I'd probably say it wasn't worth the value, but at $39 through GolfNow for an afternoon round, it was worth it. Just a note, there's no walking on this course if you're a purist.
Still can't figure out why No. 3 plays as a Par 5 as it's realistically a long Par 4. No. 6 may look short with a downhill tee shot, but definitely poses its challenge with the approach over the pond and the high reeds make the shot blind into the green. No. 8 is a very short par 4 which also requires a shot over water into a green you can't see.
9 holes.
great place to play 9 holes with your 10 yr.old kid.
staff was good.
Great Course
My son said it as we finished great course. We will play the course for sure.
Lovely course
I would have given this a 5 star rating except for it being only nine hole course. Love the lay out and it's a lovely course and demanding with water on 5 holes. There is not many places you can play in this area unless you are a member of a club. So this is a perfect place for my wife and I. It does get pretty busy on the weekends and there seems to be a lot of beginners playing here, so it can get really slow. But you can expect that on a nine hole course. The marshals were very nice and efficient. They were a real plus.
Short, challenging and fun course.
Had real fun playing this course. Each hole much different layout and you can use every club in the bag. Great condition. Greens were terrific.
Beautiful afternoon
I scored the "hot deal" for this course. It's not long, but very tight. Accuracy is key. The fairways and greens were in great shape. Same with traps. I would definitely go back.
The course was in great condition
This was my first time playing this course and I loved it! It was in great condition. I only played 9 holes but I was very impressed with the course layout and conditions. Pace of play was a little slow but it was a Sunday afternoon. If you can't keep the ball straight you will struggle here. I am a 20 handicap and had a great time.
tight and challenging
i would and will play it again
upscale experience
I had a very pleasant experience. COurse was better layout then I expected and for this time of year in better shape. The Pro shop personal were also very friendly.. I usually don't play 9 hole courses but many of the holes are very strong and I would have liked to have played them a second time to complete 18.
The Doral Golf Club
This is an excellent course. I enjoyed the challenging holes with water incorporated, and approve of the general amenities of the course. The golf carts are A+
better value elsewhere
Only nine holes so if you play 18 you will have people cutting in front on the first tee. Many rocks and stones in the traps putting equipment at risk.A few of the holes are very close together making for a dangerous situation.A tee ball went over my head!I was quoted a price by golf now and was charged more when I arrived. Much better courses can be found in westchester county at the same price
Great round for early season
We played around 10:30 in the AM and the course was basically empty. Conditions were rough with a lot of wind and it was colder than expected. Course was in great shape for March in the NorthEast. Nice little track that can play a lot more difficult once the weather gets better!!
Excellent day at doral
Awesome little course. Although not the longest course it will keep you honest with tight fairways, plenty on sand and water on almost every hole.
Great little 9
Played just before thanksgiving and the course was in fine shape . It is a tough ,tight , make you think type of golf that is a lot of fun to play . Played the whites on the first time around and the blues on the second . Had a great time .
Late Fall Golf
Golf course was in very good condition for November. Pace of play is a little slow but many leaves did not help. Nice routing and interesting holes. Not really a golf course for beginners as many forced carries and a few blind shots but a lot of fun to play.
