Fun day on the course
Former private club that luckily for the general public became semi-private. The course was in great shape considering it was only April, and it should be top-notch once the summer season is here. The wind was howling and swirling, making yesterday's round a true challenge that was fun for the avid golfer (which I pretend to be).
Wet Day at Vineyards
Great course ,Very much target golf. Many bunkers in all areas of play. Fun to play this track!
Have a Blast
Challenging course - gotta' make your shots. Beautiful fairways - very few on LI as nice. Great layout and design. Fun course - always brings you back for more.
Professional staff - attentive and polite, never a 'tude.
They want you to have a good time - easy to do. Quick round - never feel beat up. Seriously, nothing like it on eastern L.I.
Links Course Well Maintained
Upon arrival was greated by a friendly staff employee. I was a single player and was grouped with 3 other players. There is a small range and a putting green near the first hole. The course was under aeration.
I am looking forward to playing there in the spring!
Excellent! Thank you for review! We're glad you were able to get in a round before the end of the season and can't wait to have you back in the spring!
Fun, Challenging Course
My wife and I moved into a house at Olde VIne, just off the 11th green in October, 2016. This area is in the heart of Suffolk "Golf Country," I'd have to say and The Vineyards is a great part of that.
It's not the longest of course, but is so well-trapped and the rolling terrain on spots makes this course a very real challenge.
The course is a bit pricey for me and a membership is a bit much for me at this time, but thanks to a site like GolfNow.com I played once before the weather turned and plan to play that way next year.
I am by no means a good player now. But I hope to be after next year. Playing the different courses out here--hopefully, more and more on my "home course," The VIneyards would be nice--I hope to improve markedly.
Great course
Wonderful layout, very friendly and professional staff.
Good course
Better condition than Cherry & Woods by a lot. A little pricey, but understanding. I think if they lowered the price by $10-15 they would get 2X more play, which they might not want.
The course itself was pleasantly surprising. Nice condition tee to green especially for the time of year I played (late fall). On the shorter side, you don't need to hit driver on many of the Par 4s as it will not really reward you unless you like touchy 35-85 yarders. I found the greens very difficult, which I highly value in a golf course - not unfair or gimmicky, but sneaky quick and subtle. The Par 5 11th is a very difficult hole if the wind is blowing. Also the Par 3 on the front over the water is another cool one.
Overall, I'll stick with a 4 out of 5 stars and I'll play again, probably on a Saturday after I get paid.
Best course in the area with non member access
Terrific overall experience. Friendly staff, excellent course layout. Not overly long but a thinking golfers course. Overall conditioning was first rate. Greens had recently been aerated but this was made clear at the time of booking and the fee reflected this so no complaints. I will definitely play again next time I am on long island.
Thank you Ian! We love your review and are glad that you had a great experience! Can't wait til your next trip out here!
Excellent golf club!
I am an avid golfer and usually play 3-4 rounds per week. I can honestly say that this is a public course that looks feels and plays like a private course.
The staff is exceptional and couldn't be any more helpful or courteous. The course had been aerated several weeks ago but the greens still rolled on the quicker side. Fairways and bunkers were excellent!
Highly recommend.
Joe
Excellent! Thank you for the amazing review and your recommendation Joe! We were glad to have you out before the end of the season and hope to see you again!
Tips
Great layout. Best if played from the tips. Most challenging that way. Playing up removes many of the hazards. Good lunch and friendly staff.
Vineyards
Great course and can't give it a 5 star due to the greens aerated.
Thank you for your review, and we hope you enjoyed your round!
Great Course but when it is windy, it is windy
Wide open course. great layout, only good things to say about it overall. Not too painfully challenging (all of the par 4s are tricky, but not unreachable). Staff was great and got things moving quickly with good instructions on how to proceed.
Thanks for your review Jim! We appreciate your feedback, and are glad to hear the staff was helpful!
Excellent member course!
Great greens, great condition for a fairly short course. Wind & greens add to difficulty. Would definitely play again.
Love it!!
Staff couldn't be friendlier. Course is in great condition and can be very challenging. You will not want to play a public course again after playing here.
Excellent! Thanks for the great review dgaudiosi! We can't wait to see you back again soon!
course layout nice change of pace
What a great track, long hitters will think it's too short but the bunkers and challenging greens even things out. Course was in the best condition of any public course on Long Island. Clubhouse is like a private Country Club, including beautiful 19th hole view. Staff great, they even pick your clubs up as you drive in. Right next to Cherry Creek, and to me, a much more interesting course.
$$$$
Compared to Cherry Creeks 2 courses just down the road it was $25-30.00 more!
Found that a bit extreme for the Riverhead NY area.
Average public courses in Suffolk that I've played range between $45-55.00 weekdays. 18 holes here was $79.00
All prices included carts!
Otherwise the the courses all seem to be comparable.
Thank you for your review. We're sorry that you didn’t have a memorable experience here at The Vineyards Golf Club. Our prices are not comparable to that of local, public Riverhead golf courses because we are semi-private and our standards exceed that of a public facility.
Pristine conditions
What a beautiful course; perfect for mid and high handicaps; if you are a long hitter, not challenging but you must keep the ball in the fairway; tee boxes fairways and greens in excellent condition; tee off at 11:10 and completed at 3:00; will certainly play again
Thanks so much we can't wait to see you again! Great tips for newer golfers to the course.
Terrific short layout!
For a short course (around 6000 yds) a real challenge. The speed of the greens and the wind make this really interesting. Good mix of holes with more elevation than expected. Wind always a factor. Nice amenities, cordial staff. You need to play if in the area!
Thank you for your great review killthehills! We appreciate your kind words and cannot wait to have you back in the spring!
