Fly-fishing
in the Catskills
Fly-fishing enthusiasts delight in the solitude, the sunlight and
the sounds of a cascading brook. The Catskill region presents perfect
trout streams for this challenging sport. One of the state's blue ribbon
trout streams, the Beaver Kill, is located in the heart of the
Catskill Preserve.
The heritage of fly-fishing and fly-tying is chronicled at the Catskill
Fly-fishing Center and Museum, which features nature trails, classes
and nearby catch-and-release streams. For more information, contact
the center at 5447 Old Route 17, Livingston Manor, NY 12758, 914/439-4810.
For ideas about where to fish, call the Department of Environmental
Conservation Regional Fishing Offices in New Paltz, 914/256-3066; or
