From a tough opening sequence - a long par 4 into the wind following by a long, partly uphill par 5 - to a dramatic closing stretch, the course at the Saranac Inn Golf & Country Club near Lake Placid, N.Y. parts with the usual. The golf course at Craig Wood Golf & Country Club, an 81-year-old Seymour Dunn design, is full of quirky, entertaining holes. The mountain scenery is spectacular, and the grounds crew's loving care keeps this Lake Placid course in much better condition than you'd expect from a muni with a $32 green fee. [...] more »
