Getting to Lake Placid, N.Y. for your golf vacation

Golfers in New York and even Canada have long known that Lake Placid is a great setting for a golf weekend with your buddies or a family golf outing.

In addition to great golf courses, accomodations are accessible and this charming town's streets are lined with shops, boutiques, coffee houses, and restaurants offering fine wines and micro-brews.

And you may be here to golf, but, do save some time to explore offerings from vintage antiques and handmade Adirondack crafts to outdoor gear and designer fashions. Off the golf course, there are numerous other options for sports lovers, from stellar hiking trails to bring you up to breathtaking mountain peaks or take a kayak trip on a lake.

Luckily, traveling to Lake Placid is a snap.

Getting there

By car:

From N.Y.C.: five hours
From Toronto: Five and a half
From Boston: five hours
From Buffalo: five and a half hours
From Montreal: two hours
From Syracuse: Three and a half hours
From Rochester: four and a half hours

By air

The Lake Placid area is within two and a half hours driving time of major airports in Albany, N.Y., Burlington, Vt. and Montreal, Quebec.

Lake Placid is just 16 miles from Saranac Lake Airport, which Continental services.

The Lake Placid Airport is just south of the village on Route 73.

By train

Amtrak (www.amtrak.com, tel. 800-872-7245) operates between Montreal and New York City and stops in Westport, N.Y., some 40 miles from Lake Placid.
