Great course great food great staff
Love the course food is amazing staff is fantastic
Awesome course again.
As passionate golfers with a soft spot for courses that offer not just a game but an experience, we LOVE this course. The West Point Golf Course, nestled in the Hudson Valley just north of the Bear Mountain Bridge, is filled with anticipation. It is known for its historical significance and challenging layout, and the course promises to be an unforgettable day for anyone who plays it.
The first tee shot, sadly still hole 5, is an incredibly hard shot over a creek, followed by a gentle introduction to the course that intertwines nature's beauty with the precision of golf. The layout, designed by the legendary Robert Trent Jones, didn't disappoint, with each hole presenting their own unique challenges.
Holes like number 7, dubbed "The Big One," by us with its blind tee shot and fairway sloping left to right, tested our accuracy and strategic thinking. The daunting prospect of clearing water to reach the green reminded all of us of golf's humbling nature. Each hole, from the elevated tees to the shallow, bunkered greens, seemed to tell its own story, contributing to the course's overall narrative of historical significance and modern-day challenge.
Yet, what stood out the most were the moments of interaction with staff and fellow golfers and the scenery that accompanied our round. The food provided a much-needed respite, the breakfast sandwiches were unexpectedly delightful. The staff and fellow golfers, throughout the day were courteous and genuinely enhanced our experience, many offering insights into the course's history and tips for navigating its more daunting holes.
Despite the physical challenge presented by the elevation changes and the strategic placement of bunkers, which I may add were in sad condition along with construction of the irrigation system, the course overall was in rather good condition and fun to play. The fairways and greens, which were lightning fast, were well-maintained (except for the fairways with irrigation upgrades) reflecting a commitment to providing a premium golfing experience that respects the course's prestigious history.
The West Point Golf Course is more than just a place to play golf; it's a journey through the history of the sport and the nation. From the opening hole, inspired by the American Revolution, to the closing holes that nod to more recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, playing here feels like walking through history with a golf club in hand. It's a reminder of the deep ties between the military and the game of golf, with each swing and putt adding to the rich tapestry of stories that this course holds. Thanks to all that serve and protect us on a daily basis.
Reflecting on our round at West Point, it was not just about the golf. It was about the experience as a whole – the challenge, the history, the scenery, and the superb hospitality. This course offers a reminder that golf can be a bridge between past and present, offering lessons in history, resilience, and the enduring spirit of competition.
Concluding our day at the West Point Golf Course was a satisfying meal underscores the overall value of the experience. With exceptional burgers, phenomenal chicken wraps, and a beer selection that rivals the best, this venue confirms its standing as a featured golf course. Moreover, considering the quality of the course, the historical backdrop, and the culinary delights, the trip from NYC to West Point is not just a journey; it's an investment in a unique and memorable experience. The West Point Golf Course truly represents a remarkable bargain, making it well worth the travel time for any golfer looking for an outstanding round in a setting steeped in history.
On a disappointing note. The driving range and practice areas are still closed, and the clubhouse is STILL NOT COMPLETED.
Awesome place
Great staff, terrific layout and the greens were rolling fast and true. Not an easy walk, but I’ll do it again soon.
Great!
Fantastic shape for time of year. Challenging course but very playable given the shorter yardage. Lots of up and down but not annoyingly. Highly recommend. Brand new clubhouse looking very nice. Course currently starting on the 5th hole where the temp clubhouse is located. Tee to green in perfect shape.
Fairways and greens were in great shape for this time of year, pace of play was great didn’t have to wait at all. Also the food at the course is top tier.
would definitely visit in the summer
first time playing in this lovely course with a friendly staff. Had 2 hours of delay when arrived due to frost, but ending up waiting an 1hour because other tee times were not showed up. our buddies loved every hole of the course isolated. loved it
Great Course
This was a challenging course that was fun to play. The course has some very interesting holes with some uphill and some down hill.
I had heard it was very difficult, but found it to be a great play.
