The toughest short course
This is Robert Trent Jones Sr.'s second course and a must play. The yardage says short but it plays long, with some difficult par 4's. The layout is very exciting with ball position being very important. They switched 9's which I thing is great (first hole is a nice warm up) as the the 10th is a bear. Elevated tee, dogleg left and over a creek. 18 might be my favorite. A tight fairway, dogleg left with an elevated green. This course is fun to play. Conditions are sparse in some areas. It reminds me of a minature Bethpage Black.
Great improvement!!
Although I have not played this year as yet, by the end of last season, the course had improved greatly from the previous years. I believe it was the result of new management, Kless-Myers, and Monroe County taking over the upkeep and grounds of the course.
I did not appreciate the club house restroom facilities not being available to the golfers, inasmuch as I feel as it is the golfers that bring in the bulk of the income. Also, I believe the snack bar could use a great deal of improvement, i.e. open in the AM for coffee, etc., and a better selection of lunches. Thank you for you attention to these matters. Fran Limuti
Great Layout but hard conditions
The design of this golf course was spectacular as every hole had something different. Forced you to hit it straight, and it is challenging. However, what is sad is that you can hit a perfect shot to the green at it hits and goes over, and if you hit it short to run it on, the raised hills in front cause it to kick hard to the left or the right, so it is hard to get it close and you can be penalized for a good shot, especially when some of those greens are so small. We played a week after they aerated the greens, and it was difficult putting, and we waited a long time on each shot. I truly feel that is due to the fact that the course plays so hard and there is no Marshall out there. I would go back but not when the greens are aerated. The course needs water around and on the greens, and many of them are really burned out. Sad as it truly is a magnificent layout!
Sully13, Unfortunately your timing in the fall couldn't have been worse for the pond used to irrigate the greens was mistakenly drained the day after aeration. It didn't help matters that we were in the midst of the longest drought of the summer. Please visit again this year as conditions continue to improve!
1st time playing here in years-pleasantly surprised
Beautiful course that I haven't played in years due to the poor job done by the management previously in place. I am happy to report that the conditions are much improved, and further improvements are clearly in process. The first tee has been reverted to its original location, and the back 9 is again across the street. We were paired with another twosome, which we did not expect, and were not told when checking in (the twosome we were paired with was already there). We felt this was odd. There wasn't a starter or ranger, which may be an issue sometimes, but people seemed to be sticking to their tee times on the honor system. I was terrified of the reviews and hearing from co-workers that the tee times are scheduled too closely, and the wait time at each hole is horrendous. We did have some minor waiting, especially at the 1st hole and the turn, but nothing too horrific. Just under 5 hours to play 18, on a Saturday, which is a bit long, but the course is challenging and fun. We lucked out with the twosome we were with as well; may not have been as great a day otherwise. I would recommend they allow twosomes, maintain longer space between tee times (most golfers there aren't going to play this course as quickly as scheduled) and ensure a ranger is monitoring the course. I'm glad I went; no regrets, despite the issues listed.
Timken21, We are glad you decided to come back and check out the much improved conditions at Durand Eastman. As is typical on most Saturdays there are many others like yourself coming out to see for themselves. Our tee sheets become sold out very quickly. We do allow twosomes when space allows but it is not usually prime time on the weekends. Our starters do go out to ranger but we try not to force our golfers to play faster as no one enjoys that. Provided you keep up with the group in front of you we tend to let you enjoy the day and the beautiful views that Durand has to offer. The course rating for pace of play is around 4 hours 20 minutes and on a busy Saturday it can take all of that if you miss a few fairways!
Golf!
Course was in best shape I've seen in a long time. Top rate course, difficult but fair. Don't miss out on a chance to play
Greens role true
Course was in great shape, especially for a public course. Course is in the best shape I've seen for 15 years
Slow
The course and golfing companions were great. A 5 hour round is ridiculous, and no ranger to be found. I won't go back to wait every hole on every shot, and I mean wait. Sometimes there were three groups waiting to tee off in the middle of the round.
Excellent Value
This is a challenging course that's well maintained and for what we paid, an excellent value.
Creative course. Very slow play
Very creative and challenging course. Lots of variety Course was log jammed and VERY slow.
Durand in decent shape!
Have been playing Durand Eastman for many years. Fantastic new golf carts which are a plus. Course is well-maintained and greens world fairly well. Actually saw a cart come by with drinks! Overall a nice course.
A good walk spolied.
No carts available so had to walk. Good course to walk if you want a good work out. Course conditions are improving. I liked it better when the back 9 was the front 9 and the now 10th hole tee was further back and played as a par 5. I'm just saying. Also, why not put a few bunkers in now that the course conditions are being improved.
Durand Eastman
Robert Trent Jones design. First Course I ever played on. Beautiful walk. Can be over busy (as most public courses can) at the wrong time of day. I stay away from Sat and Sunday's. Definitely Recommend
Duran - Yes Golf Now _ NO
Great deal on course trying to come back after years of neglect. Doing all the right things .. areating greens/fairways good rid of the clover. New carts that are electric and clean.
Golf Now not helpful in letting me switch my tee time to one later in the day to play with a friend. Luckily not busy and Pro Shop did it with a problem.
Decent course!
It's in the process of improving. I look forward to seeing the positive changes to the course in years to come.
very good
Very interesting and varied. This course has many changes in elevation.
Only played 9 holes/payed for 18
Took a chance with 2:48 tee time due to league issues. Assured that by being sent off back that I would have no issue with making the turn. Played back nine in under 2 hours with people I was paired with only playing nine. At the turn found three groups waiting to go off front. Before going to the pro shop I checked numbers 10 and 11 on back to see if there were any groups on the holes and they were open. I then went into the clubhouse and asked if I could play the back side again(as a single) seeing I had paid for 18 holes. I was told I could not go out because of leagues getting ready to start in a while (no carts were around/at the 10th tee) at this time. I was told if I wanted to wait approx. 1 1/2 hours they could get me out again on 10 or I could wait until number one was open around the same time. No reason what so ever that as a single (in a cart no less) that I could not have been accomodated. Loved the course and conditions (I have not played there in 5 years) but left with a bad 'taste in my mouth'!
Course need improvement
Played this course the first time. They got a whole new fleet of electric carts very comfortable . The course layout is very nice as designed by Robert Trent jones But they took out all the bunkers to save maintenance costs plus fairway is bad This course has potential but just lack of tlc from the course old management . Hopefully with the new management team will revive this course again
Noticable improvements
The new management has made great improvement to the course. Nice carts and pro shop.
Nice carts
Pace of play good. Had our balls stolen on number 10 by a couple of good for nothing kids picnicking nearby. That was a first.
Fran, Thank you for your input. We want to make sure you are aware that coffee and snacks are available in the pro shop outside of regular snack bar hours. There are also separate men's and ladies bathrooms available outside the snack bar. We are glad you are enjoying all the improvements!
