Dogwood/Oak Tree at Middle Island Country Club
About
Middle Island Country Club sits almost at the center of Long Island and has been one of the area's most popular public golf courses since first opening in 1965. The 27-hole course is divided into three nines that are played in different 18-hole combinations. The entire layout was carefully carved from 225 acres of the Lustengarten Nursery. Middle Island's Dogwood/Oak combination features narrow fairways lined with trees. The greens on the front nine are the most challenging of any of the three nines. They have subtle breaks that leave many golfers wondering how they "just missed" it. The Oak nine is almost as tough, but you will get a slight break. It requires careful course management since there are many doglegs that can make it play longer than what's indicated on the scorecard.

Good speed for a busy day
Two foursomes in front of us, busy day after everyone was itching to play some golf.(it had snowed and rained for weeks prior). Some bunkers had some standing water in them still but as I said it went from snow to rain this was the first not wet day in weeks. Overall course was in good shape and the speed of play was good. A little pricey for the time of year, but overall a good day.
Very expensive for winter rates..rough was in poor condition..starter has no personality and very dry
Rude
The starters were very rude. I arrived an hour before my tee time so I could hit the range and putt. Right away, the starter had to validate I had enough time to go to the range. He gives me the green light, then shortly after, 30 mins before my scheduled tee time, he’s barking at me to hurry up, that my group is on the tee. I respond, I still have time, I’m just starting to warm up. He leaves, comes back 10 min later and says let’s go, my 3-some is on the tee, yelling at us like we were late. We still had 20 mins, I said ok fine we will go, but keep in mind, we are EARLY, not late! Relax. Course is decent, wasn’t crowded (no wonder) but starters were very rude and I would not go back.
