Bright spot of rainy day
The course shined on this rainy day. Only thing that should have better was pace of play. Groups combined themselves into a sixsome and sevensome and the group members refused to listen to the course marshal.
A pretty decent option in the Penfield area
My only real complaint with Eagle Vale is the poorly designed 11th hole. The tee shot is simply too tight with a hazard all the way down the left side of a dogleg left hole and the forced carry over a pond in front of the tee box that is a little too long to hit something less than 3-wood. There is simply no bailout, and double bogey or worse is way too common.
It's not the only hole where the target area off the tee is way too cramped, but at least you aren't facing forced carries. The fairways are pinched in quite a bit by encroaching houses on several tee shots.
The greens are usually very quick but without a lot of slope or undulations, so they're a bit more boring than a lot of courses in the area. But the conditioning is very good. The fairways are pretty pristine.
All in all, a good challenging course with a lot of nice holes.
Horribly slow play.
Decent course but overpriced, if you don't mind a six hour plus round. There was not a bottle of water or sports drink to be bought even in the snack bar or beverage cart on an early Saturday afternoon.
Too Much Maintenance
The overall experience wasn’t too bad except for the fact that there was too many holes with green maintenance or overall course maintenance occurring causing a distraction and making it hard to focus on hitting a good shot and having a good round. It doesn’t seem right to have limited access to the course when you’ve paid for a full experience. There shouldn’t be anyone playing if there’s maintenance occurring. It was not a first class experience.
Course is in great shape
I haven’t played Eagle Vale in probably 20 years and didn’t remember a lot of the course. Some trees have grown up a bit but the course was in great shape. The only comment that I will make is that a few tees (par 3s) are “crowned” making it difficult to find a level lie. We played later in the day and even after all of the foot traffic the greens were still rolling nicely. Several of the greens had a lot of ball marks so there are a lot of lazy golfers not taking care of things. I repaired many but on some holes you couldn’t spend that much time.
Good conditions, great greens
Overall course conditions are well maintained and very playable. A good challenge and fair if you do not spray your shots. The biggest improvement to be made is with the lazy golfers who need to repair green marks.
Meh
Course is typically overpriced, and only play here when there is a GolfNow hot deal. Pro shop attendant was a pretentious snob, although the starter was nice. Course wasn’t in terrible shape, but not great. Also the golf carts are absolutely terrible. 4/10 overall, would not recommend.
